My son would eat her every day if he could . He is always begging me to go. :)

I do not understand why people go here to eat. Good place to watch a game, though.

Two years ago I would have given this place a 5. The food is good and the fries with cheese sauce are the reason I kept coming back. On Saturdays they have a drink called a Papa Smurf that is amazing. I used to come here once a week, now I only go every few months. Unfortuantly, they continue to raise and raise their prices and the service is spotty at best. It just doesn't seem worth it for the price anymore. If you do come on certain days they do have good food and drink specials though. It's just not the place it used to be...

I don't really ever go to Between the Buns on the restaurant side so I cannot vouch for service at the tables, but I frequent the bar and have always been treated great by the bartenders. It is a great place to watch any game and have some $2 beers or papa smurfs (on saturdays). Always a good crowd of sports fans and daily food specials offer very affordable options.

I grew up in Osceola, which means I grew up with The Buns. This review is for the South Bend location and it breaks my heart to see it in it's current state. I took my family there for a simple, Thursday night meal and I got awful service and an lousy meal. My wife and I ordered the Thursday special of an appetizer, two meals, and a dessert for $20. It took 40 minutes to get our sandwiches, and they were just plain bad. To top it all off, when we got our check, everything was rung up at full price and when we quizzed our server about it, she says it's probably because of tax. Oh, and we never got the dessert. In fairness, it was offered after we discussed the bill, but at that point, I just wanted to go home. We decided to pay the full price because that was the last dime I was ever going to spend there. What's unfortunate is that it's been going downhill for quite some time. It's really, really sad because I have many fond memories here and I swear, I will never return.

I have been a long time patron of Between the Buns, but lately things have deteriorated to a point that I can barely continue to tolerate it. Tonight a few friends and I decided to go to The Buns for a late dinner and some drinks. After sitting down, we waited 10 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged us. Then we waited another 10 minutes before our drinks finally arrived. Eventually our food showed up (appetizer and entree together) and it was even more lackluster than the service. The Parmesan Shrimp cost eight dollars and consisted of six small shrimp covered in semi-melted cheese. Mediocre food, exceedingly questionable service. I'll probably pass the next time.

The food was decent, nothing spectacular but edible. Very limited beer selection. Service was adequate. The worst part of our visit was the deafening noise level. There were several tables of a girl convention who thought nothing of screaming at the top of their lungs, let alone the normal loud bar noise level. Does not make for a pleasant evening out. We won't be back.

We eat here a lot- I love this place. I am making it a personal mission to try everything on the menu, and so far, so good. I love everything they serve.

Decent bar food. After celebrating a friend's wedding until the wee hours the night before, all we wanted was a place to relax, grab a burger and a beer, and watch some football before heading home. Between the Buns met every one of those needs. They take their sports seriously here, to the point of asking if you've come to watch a specific game, and seating you accordingly. We just wanted football, nothing in particular, so we sat in the bar, which is FULL of TVs. We saw at least 4 games on at once, which was perfect. It did get pretty loud, but that was to be expected. The crowd (and there was a crowd, once the games started) ranged from college kids to middle aged folks, and everyone seemed happy to be there. The beers were on special - $2 each, so we had a few of those, an order of mozzarella sticks, and a burger and fries each. The food was alright - nothing special, but again, it met the burger need, so we were happy. The bill ended up being something like $35 total, which wasn't bad at all. The bar itself doesn't look like much from the outside, and the interior is dive-y, but clean. There is a "dining area" that is separate from the bar, but I didn't have a look at that part of the place. In the bar area, service was fast and friendly, and if you sit in a booth, you've got your very own small flat screen where you can...you guessed it - watch a game! All in all, this is a solid option if you want to catch a game and have some standard bar food. If I ever happen to be in South Bend again, I'll make my way back to Between the Buns.

This place is overpriced for the amount of food you get and the quality of the food. Also, the service was terrible. I would never recommend Between the Buns to anyone.

I hear this place is awesome so I would recommend going here. I'm deducting a star because since my buddy just got NFL Sunday Ticket, Buns will be losing their biggest star as he won't be coming here on Sunday's during football season anymore. Hopefully Buns can stay in business. He dropped lots of coin here.

They had carbonated water!!! Love it when a restaurant has this. I ordered the fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised by the lightly battered fish. It was just enough to add a crunch and not so much to keep you digging for the fish. My hubby had a fish sandwich with sweet potato fries that he enjoyed as well. We'll be back.

Revisited today..it had been several years since I had been to BTB. Food was better than I remembered. The menu seems like it has a bit more variety. I had the Reuben and My son had a cheese burger. It was good, My reuben was a little stingy on the kraut but the corned beef was tender, and the russian dressing seemed like it was house made.... They use giant steak fries, which I personally like....but some people don't. Service was very good, prompt, friendly , efficient. I personally don't care for the TV overkill in the dining area, but I am sure that people appreciate it on game days.

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is awful. Edit: Apparently this was insufficient information. By awful I mean, dim lights, big televisions that randomly pop on at a disruptively high volume for no reason, not gross but not particularly well kept up. Looks a little dingy despite the darkness. I was straining my eyes most of the time and had a headache by the time I left. But I gave this business 3 stars because the food is certainly worth having, I just don't think fondly about the location in which I'd need to eat it.

The food's not great and the bar isn't clean. Like... Really not great and really not clean. Servers aren't generally nice or particularly attentive. The drinks aren't bad-- they have something called The Smurf that is supposed to be semi-famous, but I have never dared to try it. But if you're into sports, this is a good place in town to watch the game. What game, you ask? Well, pretty much any game. They have TVs showing lots of different games at once and even TVs at some of the tables. I'll give them two stars for giving me the opportunity to watch games that other bars might not be showing, but can't in good faith do any more than that.

Great staff, great location close to Notre Dame. Smoke Free and family friendly with separate bar area. TV's in every booth to watch your favorite team. Food is typical pub fare, but its what you'd expect. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries etc. I believe its more of the atmosphere than anything else. It's been a local favorite for 20+ years so they have to be doing something right.

This place gets one star because that's the fewest I'm allowed to give. You ever watch the show Bar Rescue and see how gross the bar is and wonder if places like that exist in the wild? Well they do, and it's called Between the Buns. I ordered a Yuengling and it tasted like food poisoning and later that night it was confirmed. The burger I got was cheap and tasted like it. If you're going to pay $4 for a burger save your money and just go to Five Guys. Trust me, there are better place to grab a drink, eat a burger, and watch a game. Seriously, go ANYWHERE else. Buffalo Wild Wings, Brothers, hell even Olive Garden is better and probably cleaner.

Between the Buns has your typical sports bar atmosphere so it's good if you are going to grab a beer and catch a game. When it comes to the food, I feel like it has been on a steady decline over the last several years. Food is mediocre at best and is definitely overpriced. Salads are iceberg, burgers and sandwiches are bland. Appetizers are your typical frozen, fried bar food. Definitely better and more economical places to eat in the area!

I'll be honest, it was Girl's Night and this was not my choice; however, having said that, I will admit that I enjoyed myself more than I expected. I've been to BtB several times over the years, but this had been my first visit in quite a while. * We were seated right away in the bar (which was hopping!) and there we sat and sat and sat until the gals I was with started to get angry. They finally flagged down a waitress (Brittany(?)...who seemed to be the only one actually working). She confirmed that she was not our waitress, but would be more than happy to wait on us and we therefore insisted she stay our waitress rather than hand us off to whoever was supposed to be our server. She was a hoot and we really enjoyed her. * I was delighted to see that there were now alternative Papa Smurf equivalents (because I just don't love the blue ones)! I had a green and a purple (sorry, after drinking them I can't remember their names, but the green was tastier). What wasn't so delightful was that the blue ones were on sale for about half the price of the others, which seemed unfair since they are basically the same drink in different flavors (to me this was like saying Coke is on special, but Sprite isn't?!)...regardless, you'll notice it didn't stop me from ordering them. * The menu hadn't changed much since my previous visits, so I ordered nachos. The nachos are tasty, but there was just a bit of toppings on a humongous plate of chips. It seemed like there was no topping left by the time I ate the first few off the top. Also, nachos...should have the option of beans! I wish there was the option of getting refried or black beans with the nachos. Overall, we had a good time, but the food was just okay and the drinks (the ones I had anyway) were expensive and it was loud and so busy that this still wouldn't be my first choice for a fun night out, but I wouldn't refuse to go back, especially since we ended up having a great waitress.

My wife and I met our college age daughter her for dinner. I had the usual chicken strippers and fries wife had a burger and daughter had veggie burger all were good and hot but place was busy so service was a little slow took our waitress quite awhile to ring up our bill. We have concluded that the south bend buns is actually the best of the three with the OC buns being pretty gross from a porta john on the patio when bathrooms had problems to the floor being sticky when you walk to the non smoking area. The Elkhart buns is clean and nice but our burgers end up over cooked and fries are cold so when we decide on the buns we drive from Elkhart to the south bend location. If we just want burgers and fries we drive 2 min farther to 5 guys.

My first BtB experience was many moons ago when it was a stand-alone in Osceola. I loved their burgers and, of course, the steak fries with cheese. It was always packed and deservedly so. I always made it a point to go to this newer one when I was back in town. The food was pretty much as great as always. Then they changed foodservices a couple-three years ago. The fries now had that turrible starch coating which allows for quicker cooking, but takes away the natural flavor of the fries they had served for years, and are near-impossible to have crispy. Anymore, the burgers do not get cooked per request. I am virtually certain they have an issue with their grill having uneven heat. Oh well. They don't seem to care enough to have it properly serviced. I love this location near ND and I once had the utmost respect for the owner and his vision and his execution. However, the quality of the servers has most definitely declined from what it was. I've seen more and more dissatisfied customers as some other reviews have mentioned. The cooks? Incompetent. Such a shame. I know I have ordered my last burger there if I am paying for it. If a group I'm with wants to go there, I'll go. I just won't eat much. They do have a fantastic sports TV setup. Their Captain Morgan drink specials (Thursdays?) are legendary. Bar prices are most reasonable, generally. Too bad I don't drink alcohol. They serve Pepsi fountain products, which is a strike against for me, but perhaps not for you. If the owner reads this, I urge him to go for a complete re-set of management and the kitchen at this location.

The food was actually really good. Their wings are whole, meaning that the drum and flat pieces are still together. I've been a few times. It is really a great time before ND games because they have a Bloody Mary bar. It's like $5 - $8 bucks for a generous portion of vodka depending on your poison, and all the mix ins are on the bar counter so you can make it however you want. The crowd is fun on football Saturday's too!

Nice sports bar atmosphere. The food is pretty typical of a sports bar, although not as good as one might hope from a local sports bar. Mini TVs at the tables, so that's a plus.

Holy shiz. I am having a hard time recollecting my food experience here because I was sat next to a table in the bar full of screaming, insane college girls drinking giant blue drinks, which made them shriek even louder. To be fair it was a Saturday night at a place that is clearly a bar/grill, but there is no need to allow 1oz. of alcohol in a 16oz. glass of blue kool-aid to turn you into a 300-decibel harpy. Anyway, the service here was really spotty. Our server asked for our order immediately when we sat down and when we told her we werent ready yet she didnt return for 15-20 minutes. After we got our food we didnt see her again until the bill came. The food was OK, cooked well, but not amazing.

Let's start with what Between the Buns is NOT: it's not a late night bar - and they don't try to be one. There is no open space for dancing or mingling; rather, this place is dominated by booths and tables, making it perfect for getting food and drinks and conversing with those you came with. Don't come here expecting to have a wild night out, dance, or meet new people. If you're cool with that, it's a great place. There are TVs in every booth, as well as about a dozen large-screen TVs throughout the restaurant and bar areas. You'll find every game you could need, and we'd sometimes come here to watch games from other markets. The food is pretty cheap, and drink specials run just about every night of the week. I usually came on Tuesdays for live trivia, and on that night they serve 32 oz schooners for $3.50. I highly recommend coming to trivia with some friends - it's a lot of fun and they give out prizes. I believe it starts at 8 PM, but you'll definitely want to call earlier in the day to get a reservation. If you don't, there's a good chance you won't get seated because it gets packed. In all, I'd reccommend coming here for a meal, for a game, for trivia, or even for a couple drinks in a lively yet relaxed atmosphere before heading out somewhere else for late night shenanigans. Oh and also, the owner is a cool guy. Don't remember his name but we were both wearing ND clothes and ran into each other while tailgating for a DMB concert, so we got to talking. Seems like he really cares about the students and wants to make it a fun place.

Nice people. That's what they have going for them. Waitress was great, manager checked on us and was great. Beer was not ice cold, fries were burned, food was a disappointment. I could've done better out of a frozen box of food from home.

Favorite game bar in grad school. There is a screen on every table, and huge ones at the bar and all around. You cannot miss a game if you come here, they have all the big games playing at the same time. Came here all the time during football season and with clients. Great burger. Great specials. Lots of TV's, like a Best Buy. Highly recommend it. Lots of nostalgic memories here from grad school.

OK, so what are the chances that we have 4 teams all playing at the same time?? We were in desperate need of multiple TVs so we could keep up with all teams. I called and they took a reservation for a Saturday night! (wow) We got there early to see if we could put a request in for all 4 teams to be on one of the TVs. The managers did accommodate that. We saw ND football, WI football, AL football and TX Rangers baseball. The food was good bar food. Enjoyed the Parmesan Shrimp, Wings, Prime Rib sandwich, and the Portabella Mushrooms were the best.

Went here last Saturday for the Michigan-ND game. We came here because it came on a good recommendation from a friend and they took reservations (there were about 15 of us). We were kind of stumbling there, and were supposed to get there an hour before kickoff: I called from Touchdown Jesus at about 2:15 to let them know we were running late and they said it was fine, that there were still people at our tables, but that they would be gone before the game started. We ended up getting there about 15 min before kickoff and there were still people at our tables, but just like they promised, we were in our seats and a round of shots deep before kickoff. Our waitress was awesome and attentive, and I give her a lot of credit for dealing with a bunch of drunk people. Great atmosphere to watch the game - we had 3 TV's in our area to watch our game and the OSU game. We were right next to a big group of ND fans (and one Michigan fan) who we were bantering back and forth with. I've gotta admit, I expected ND fans to be a lot more obnoxious...at this place, they weren't. I loved their beer battered chicken tenders. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich and said that was really good too. The onion rings are freaking huge. And the drinks were cheap...we got 2 pitchers of beer with our food and our total bill was like 33 bucks or something like that. Apparently they have an awesome bloody mary bar, and this drink called the Smurf or something that is ridiculously good. It's $12 and I was already drunk on beer or else I would have ordered it myself to see what the hype was all about. If you're a visiting team's fan, and you and a big group of people are looking for somewhere to go to watch the game (apart from the stadium), I recommend this place. Actually, even if you don't have a big group, it's a good place to go; I think I remember each booth having their own television. GO BLUE!!

GREAT food, beer specials, and a table-side television for watching games. It's like a fantasy bar/dining experience. I have had to wait for a table here, and sometimes the kitchen is slow, so minus one point for all of that. But, they have larger screens tucked all around, so you won't miss any action.
